We humans are being remade today using many advanced technologies. Into what is as-yet unclear, but the direction such efforts are headed seems terrifying. Will AI rule the world? Yes and no – depends on how you define “rule”. Defined as “control, direct, influence”, the answer seems clearly “yes”, but the reason why turns out to be far from clear or generally understood. We can be, and in fact are, ruled in some very unsuspected and invisible ways. Welcome to the future – it’s here.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is showing up everywhere today. Not much seems truly intelligent despite the hype. What defines real AI? Certainly not just an ability to generate conversations and chats within the narrow confines of its data and rules. Is Open AI’s ChatGPT intelligent by any practical definition, or simply just another, more powerful chatbot? How can we identify intelligence in practice?
